Am I the only one that’s frustrated by Carl’s Jr. attempt to squeeze a few more bucks out of consumers by offering the “Rocky Mountain High: Cheeseburger Delight” on 4/20?
I don’t think they are intending to, but their latest ad campaign is actually hurting CBD professionals.
You see, as a CBD business owner one of the most important cogs in my business wheel is my merchant account. It allows me to process credit card transactions on my ecommerce website. Setting up this account has not been easy.
Because CBD can be extracted from both marijuana and hemp plants, and because hemp based CBD often contains trace amounts of THC, uneducated bank executives are nervous about jumping into the industry.
Carl’s Jr. selling a hemp based CBD burger on the one and only marijuana holiday does nothing to help clear up the confusion surrounding the difference between hemp based and marijuana based CBD. In fact, it kind of makes things worse.
As long as the 2 are associated, CBD businesses are going to be looked at the same way banks look at THC companies.
I agree that this is probably a step in the right direction for the community as a whole. Having a giant mainstream brand like Carl’s Jr. advertising a CBD product will convince a lot of people that CBD is ok. As crazy as that is, advertising works.
As a CBD business owner I wish they would of picked a different holiday to run this same promo. I’m sure it would of generated just as much buzz and sold almost as well on Earth Day or National Health Day. Any day other than 4/20 is better in my opinion.
The one thing that really confuses me about this whole thing is how is Carl’s Jr. able to process CBD product credit card transactions through their normal bank/merchant account? Are they only accepting cash (yeah right) for the Rocky Mountain High Burger or is their bank looking the other way because of who they are?
I think we both know the answer to that last question.
